Viana do Castelo hosts Romaria d’Agonia festival

Viana do Castelo is hosting the Romaria d’Agonia, considered Portugal’s largest pilgrimage, starting Saturday, August 15. The festival, themed “Um só coração” (One single heart), is expected to attract over one million visitors through August 23.

The celebration features a wide array of traditional activities, including folk groups, parades, and religious processions dedicated to Nossa Senhora d’Agonia and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The event involves approximately 15,000 participants, collaborators, and volunteers.

To support the festivities, particularly the “Romaria dos Pequeninos” for children, Estação Viana Shopping is providing a free tourist train on August 14 and 21. The initiative includes various animations, such as the “Circo Andarilho” and prize distributions, to engage families throughout the city's emblematic spaces.
