Viana do Castelo Municipal Market construction to begin after excavations
Archaeological excavations at the site of the future Municipal Market in Viana do Castelo are scheduled to conclude at the end of August. The excavations revealed non-religious structures belonging to the former 16th-century Convento de São Bento.
Following the conclusion of these works, major construction activities are expected to begin on September 1. The municipality is currently finalizing a project to valorize the archaeological findings, proposing to integrate them into a future Archaeology Pole for Viana do Castelo to be implemented in the Praia Norte Business Zone and other city locations.
The market project, valued at 13.376 million euros and managed by Arlo S. A., involves the construction of a building with a gross area of approximately 8,570 square meters. The facility is planned to include 56 stalls, 28 commercial and service spaces, and 91 underground parking spaces.
