Avic to appeal court ruling on transport compensation in Viana do Castelo

The Avic group, through its subsidiary António dos Prazeres da Silva & Filho, Lda., has announced its intention to appeal a decision by the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Braga. The court ruled the company's lawsuit against the Municipality of Viana do Castelo “totally unfounded.”

The legal dispute concerns claims for additional compensation for Public Service Obligations (OSP) regarding the Braga – Viana do Castelo transport route between 2021 and 2024. The company sought an additional €268,573.54 plus interest, citing rising costs for fuel and personnel.

The court determined that the company failed to demonstrate a right to payments exceeding those established in existing protocols with the municipality. The ruling noted that legislation regarding public transport services does not automatically grant operators the right to demand amounts beyond agreed-upon terms, and that opinions from the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT) were not binding on the municipality.
