Viana do Castelo to host animated film premiere in public square

Due to the closure of local movie theaters in January, the city of Viana do Castelo will host the premiere of the 3D animated feature ‘Viana, a Lenda dos Corações de Ouro’ in the Praça da República on November 19.

Produced by Watermelon Productions and directed by Rodrigo Carvalho, the film has a budget of approximately 15 million euros and is inspired by local legends. The premiere is intended to promote public spaces and the city's historical monuments. Mayor Luís Nobre described the event as a ‘Hollywood-style moment’ featuring a red carpet to encourage public engagement with the city's landmarks.

The film will feature a musical component and will be released in both Portuguese and English, with a voice cast including Daniela Melchior, Pêpê Rapazote, Diogo Piçarra, Luke Newton, and Michael McElhatton. While the premiere will take place in the city square, the film is also set for simultaneous release in national and international cinemas.
