Viareggio City Council debates no-confidence motion and municipal funding
The Viareggio City Council held an urgent session to address a motion of no confidence against Rodolfo Salemi, the city's sports assessor. Salemi faces accusations of leaking the locations of police checkpoints to over 5,000 users via a Telegram channel. While the motion is not legally binding on the Mayor, a successful vote could trigger a crisis within the Grilli administration.
In other municipal matters, the council approved the transfer of Parco della Musica lands to the Fondazione Festival Pucciniano. Additionally, debates occurred regarding the funding for a new municipal swimming pool in the Darsena area. Following concerns that PNRR funds might be lost due to construction deadlines, the administration has approved a new technical-economic feasibility project to seek alternative resources through the ‘Bando Sport Missione Comune 2026’.
Finally, the council reached a unanimous agreement on a motion regarding the acquisition of artifacts from the June 29, 2009, railway disaster.
