Viareggio Mayor faces criticism over Florida mission costs
The political movement Fare Viareggio has raised concerns regarding a mission undertaken by the Mayor of Viareggio to Monte Carlo and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which cost approximately 62,952 euros.
The movement describes the trip as a “mission without an invitation,” arguing that the provided explanations regarding the trip's utility are insufficient. While the Mayor released a list of meetings and visits, Fare Viareggio claims there is a lack of transparency concerning the composition of the delegation and the specific breakdown of expenses.
Critics point out that several scheduled encounters lacked institutional substance. These include meetings with the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, the ICE Agency, and the Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, which the movement characterizes as routine courtesies rather than strategic objectives. Additionally, the movement noted that local shipyards in Viareggio were already present at the Florida boat show with their own commercial networks, suggesting the official delegation was unnecessary.
