Viareggio politicians contest Pucciniano Festival funding requests

Political groups in Viareggio, including Fare Viareggio and former city councilor Alessandro Santini, are challenging the Fondazione Festival Pucciniano over its recent requests for public funds. Despite reporting record revenues of 2.48 million euros in September—an increase of nearly 470,000 euros compared to the previous period—the Foundation is seeking 700,000 euros from citizens. This request includes 400,000 euros for repainting the Gran Teatro facades and 300,000 euros for a crane.

Critics argue that the municipality has already provided significant financial support, including 1.5 million euros for the endowment fund in 2025, annual contributions of up to 600,000 euros, and municipal land valued at over one million euros. The Marialina Marcucci Sindaca council group has filed an inquiry and a request for access to documents to investigate the Foundation's financial management. Concerns raised include a reported financial imbalance exceeding one million euros and bank debts totaling more than 1.26 million euros.
