Vibe coding lets users build software with AI‑written code

Vibe coding is a method of software creation where a user describes the desired outcome in natural language and an artificial‑intelligence model generates the code. The term was coined by Andrej Karpathy at the start of 2025 and quickly spread online as AI models became capable of producing functional code from informal prompts. Tools such as OpenAI’s Codex and Google’s Gemini AntiGravity extend the concept beyond pure code generation, allowing AI agents to interact directly with the operating system, access external services and perform tasks like email summarization via plugins. Practitioners can prototype full‑stack applications, automate routine computer actions, and integrate AI‑driven workflows without writing traditional code.

The approach is positioned as a way for people with little or no programming background to create functional applications quickly, while still requiring human oversight to guide, correct and evaluate the AI‑produced results. Vibe coding is presented as a shift in how humans interact with computers, moving from explicit coding to conversational task delegation.
