Vibe coding uses AI to accelerate software development
Vibe coding is an emerging software development style where users describe desired outcomes in plain language, allowing AI agents to write, run, and revise code through an iterative feedback loop. While this method enables rapid prototyping and the quick creation of internal tools or throwaway scripts, it introduces significant technical and security risks.
Experts warn that the speed of vibe coding can lead teams to bypass essential development steps. Critical risks include failing to deeply understand the customer problem, neglecting security reviews, and accumulating technical debt by incorporating unverified open-source packages. Notably, a report from Veracode indicated that AI-generated code passed security tests only 56% of the time.
Common failures in vibe-coded applications occur when AI agents hallucinate non-existent methods, use outdated API assumptions, or only account for the “happy path,” failing to handle unexpected inputs or empty fields.
