Vibo Valentia caregiver detained for attempted murder of elderly man

An elderly man, identified as 91-year-old former teacher and municipal administrator Antonio Reggio, is in serious condition after being stabbed in his home in Vibo Valentia. The victim, originally from Nicotera, suffered multiple wounds to his chest and abdomen, resulting in a pleural effusion. He was transferred from Jazzolino Hospital to a facility in Catanzaro for specialized care.

Investigators from the Vibo Valentia Mobile Squad have detained the victim's Ukrainian caregiver on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities believe the woman may have administered sedatives to the man before the attack. The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention following judicial validation. Investigators are currently working to establish a motive and reconstruct the exact dynamics of the incident.
