Vice President Alliana defends Paraguay health spending amid criticism

During the 139th anniversary celebrations of the Partido Colorado in Pilar, Vice President Pedro Alliana claimed that the administration of Santiago Peña has made the highest investment in healthcare in Paraguay’s democratic history. Alliana cited the purchase of 217 new ambulances and the completion of two previously abandoned hospitals using state resources as evidence of this commitment. He also noted that the budget for medicines and supplies is being tripled, while acknowledging that further improvements are necessary.

Former President Nicanor Duarte Frutos challenged these assertions, citing a widespread public perception of a healthcare crisis. Duarte Frutos argued that if significant investments have indeed been made, the current management is failing, given the continuous public demands for medicines and services. He emphasized the need for internal party criticism and warned against ignoring reality for the sake of political benefit.
