Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka reviews Aceh bridge reconstruction and mitigation plans

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited the Kendawi suspension bridge in Gayo Lues, Aceh, urging that post‑disaster recovery include mitigation measures. He called for accelerated river normalization, stating, "Normalisasi sungainya harus dikebut, kondisi alamnya begini. Normalisasi sungai itu lebih mahal dari bikin jembatan." The bridge, 100 m long, is 80 % complete and slated for completion by mid‑August, while surrounding homes, schools and rice fields are also slated for rebuilding.

Raka also inspected the rehabilitation of the Lumut bridge in Aceh Tengah, a 30‑metre steel structure on the Takengon–Isé‑Isé national road that was damaged by flooding in early 2025. Progress has reached about 40 % using a jacking method to raise the bridge 1.5 m, with work overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and PT Hutama Karya. The project aims to restore vital transport links and improve flood resilience for the region’s communities.
