Vicente López and Merlo lead Greater Buenos Aires in lowest crime rates
Data from the National Criminal Information System (SNIC) of the Ministry of Security shows that Vicente López recorded the lowest crime rate among the 24 municipalities in Greater Buenos Aires during 2025, with 1,765 incidents per 100,000 inhabitants. This figure is significantly lower than the regional average of 2,378 incidents per 100,000 inhabitants.
Merlo followed as the second safest district with 1,946 incidents per 100,000 inhabitants, which is 18% below the regional average. Other low-rate municipalities included Hurlingham and San Miguel.
In Vicente López, security measures under Mayor Soledad Martínez include the ESCUDO central, which monitors over 2,600 cameras using artificial intelligence to detect specific crimes like motorcycle thefts. The district also utilizes a Digital Wall for access control and non-lethal weaponry for municipal patrols.
Merlo’s security model relies on a network of over 9,000 cameras, a fleet of 150 mobile units, and coordination between municipal departments and provincial police forces.
