Global municipalities deploy new safety and surveillance technologies

Municipalities across Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Mexico are implementing various technological solutions to enhance public safety and traffic management.

In Arganda del Rey, Spain, authorities are distributing over 3,000 NFC-equipped hair accessories that allow users to send emergency alerts and real-time locations to trusted contacts. In Roses, Spain, a new 640,805 euro project will install 38 surveillance cameras with license plate recognition.

In Argentina, several cities are upgrading infrastructure. Paraná is adding 40 electronic monitoring points to detect traffic violations like speeding and cell phone use. Bariloche is introducing digital traffic fines via QR codes, while Lanús and Vicente López have expanded their camera and license plate reader networks. Clodomira is launching a mobile app that connects citizens directly to a monitoring center for emergencies and municipal reports.

In Uruguay, Salto is installing 500 AI-powered cameras and a new monitoring center. In Chile, Alto Hospicio is adding 110 cameras and a license plate reading system. In Mexico, 155 cameras were installed in the Ajusco area of Mexico City over the past year.
