UBA Index ranks Vicente López as top AMBA municipality

The University of Buenos Aires (UBA) has released the 2026 Strategic Management Index for Cities (IGEC), evaluating 31 municipalities within the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA). Vicente López secured the first position for the second consecutive year with a score of 3.78 out of 5, improving its performance across all five assessed dimensions: political-institutional, society, technology and infrastructure, economic development, and environment.

Other top-performing municipalities include Tres de Febrero (3.55), Escobar (3.35), San Isidro (3.31), and San Miguel (3.11). Escobar, participating for the first time, reached the podium by exceeding the metropolitan average in all categories, notably in technology and infrastructure.

The report highlights significant disparities in urban management. At the lower end of the ranking, municipalities such as Presidente Perón, Cañuelas, General Rodríguez, and Marcos Paz recorded lower scores. Presidente Perón placed 30th out of 31, with specific deficiencies noted in environmental management, economic development, and technology and infrastructure.
