Vicentina Pede Desculpas debuts at Toronto International Film Festival

The Brazilian film ‘Vicentina Pede Desculpas’, directed by Gabriel Martins, made its international debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The production, which stars Rejane Faria, is a pre-selected candidate to represent Brazil at the 2027 Oscars.

Developed over more than a decade by the production company Filmes de Plástico in partnership with Netflix, the film follows the story of Vicentina, a woman navigating grief following the death of her son. Director Gabriel Martins noted that the success of his previous work, ‘Marte Um’, helped facilitate the realization of this long-gestating project.

During the premiere, the cast and crew, including Faria and Martins, participated in a public discussion regarding the filmmaking process and the emotional weight of the story. The film was received with enthusiasm by the festival audience.
