Vicenza caregiver sentenced to 28 years for two murders
The Vicenza Court of Assizes has sentenced Paola Pettinà, a 47-year-old caregiver, to 28 years and six months in prison. The verdict follows a first-degree trial concerning the deaths of two elderly individuals and three attempted murders.
According to the prosecution, Pettinà used psychotropic medications to target the elderly people under her care, as well as her former partner. While the prosecution had requested a life sentence, the court issued a lower term. During the proceedings, Pettinà expressed remorse, stating she had “provoked pain and suffering.” The sentence is not yet final and may be appealed.
