Vicenza, Italy, showcases Renaissance architecture
Located in the Veneto region approximately 70 km from Venice, the city of Vicenza is renowned for its Renaissance architecture. The city's character is largely defined by the works of Andrea Palladio, a prominent architect born in Padua in 1508 whose designs emphasized symmetry, elegant columns, and precise proportions.
In 1994, the historic center of Vicenza was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, a status that was expanded in 1996 to include the Palladian villas in the surrounding region. Key landmarks include the Basilica Palladiana and the Teatro Olimpico.
