Vicks Vaporub and Herbal Teas Recommended for Minor Cold and Mosquito Bite Relief

Herbal infusions such as ginger, thyme, eucalyptus and menthol‑rich mint are highlighted as traditional remedies that may ease cough, sore throat and nasal congestion during common colds. The National Institutes of Health notes these drinks can help hydrate and may reduce irritation, though scientific evidence of cure is limited and they should not replace medical treatment for severe symptoms.

Vicks Vaporub, originally formulated for nasal congestion, is described as a temporary soothing option for mosquito bite itching. Its menthol and camphor create a cooling sensation that distracts the nervous system from the itch, but it does not diminish the underlying inflammation or accelerate skin healing. Users are advised to apply a thin layer on clean skin, avoid covering the area with dressings, and not use it on open wounds, broken skin or if allergic to its ingredients. Alternative over‑the‑counter treatments include cold compresses, calamine lotion and low‑strength hydrocortisone creams.
