Vicksburg Gators prepare for season opener against Natchez

The Vicksburg Gators are set to begin their 2026 football season this Friday at home against Natchez. This matchup continues a competitive series between the two teams, with their last four meetings since 2020 all decided by eight points or fewer, including two overtime games.

Vicksburg head coach Christopher Lacey noted the athletic nature of both programs, highlighting that Natchez often features strong athletes from track and powerlifting backgrounds. Vicksburg is looking to improve upon two recent seasons with sub-.500 records, following a 14-6 overtime victory against Natchez in 2025.

In preparation for the opener, the Gators recently played a preseason game against Clinton, resulting in a 14-13 loss. Despite the defeat, the team showed defensive strength, including an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown by James Warfield.
