Vicky Moscholiou: Remembering the legendary Greek singer

Vicky Moscholiou, a prominent figure in Greek music, passed away on August 16, 2005, following a three-year battle with cancer. Born in Athens in 1943, she rose from a humble background in Kerameikos and Aigaleo to become one of the most celebrated voices in the Greek musical landscape.

Her career began in the early 1960s, gaining significant momentum after being discovered by Stavros Xarchakos. She became known for her versatile voice, which spanned genres from Rebetiko and Laiko to Entechno. Throughout her career, she collaborated with legendary composers and lyricists, including Mikis Theodorakis, Giorgos Zambetas, and Vassilis Tsitsanis.

Moscholiou was noted for her unique, soulful vocal quality and her ability to transcend musical labels. Her legacy includes numerous iconic songs and historic performances, such as being one of the first Greek artists to fund and perform a major concert in Cyprus in 1968.
