Victims demand action in real estate fraud cases in Dominican Republic and Mexico
In the Dominican Republic, victims of a major real estate scam are calling on the Attorney General's Office to expedite the extradition of Loany Lismeiry Ortiz Nova. Ortiz Nova is the alleged leader of a scheme involving the sale of non-existent apartment projects, such as La Romana Victoriana Residences and Bávaro Victoriana Residences, through companies like Novasco Real Estate S.R.L. The fraud, known as ‘Operación Guepardo’, involves losses exceeding $18 million USD and 214 million pesos. Ortiz Nova was captured in Colombia in February 2025, and another suspect, Keylis Sarahi Belfon Arismendi, is also detained in Colombia.
In Mexico, more than 200 investors have filed complaints with the State Attorney General's Office regarding alleged fraud by the firm Inverco México. The case involves the housing development Pedregales de Misnebalam in Yucatán, which reportedly affects the assets of over 700 families. Investors claim they purchased lots and homes under promises of immediate delivery and legal certainty, but the land remains undeveloped. Complainants are seeking investigations into the company's directors and the public official who authorized the transactions.
