Victor Gabriel suspended by Brazilian sports tribunal until Gabriel Pec recovers
Inter defender Victor Gabriel was punished by Brazil’s Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) on 28 July. He received a suspension that will last until Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec returns to training, limited to a maximum of 180 days (or six matches), after a violent foul on 22 July fractured Pec’s left tibia during a Série A match in Porto Alegre.
The STJD applied article 254 of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code with the aggravating factor of paragraph 3. Auditors Eduardo Xibe, Jorge Octavio Lavocat Galvão and Aline Gonçalves Jatahy voted for the extended sanction, while auditor Rodrigo Steinmann Bayer voted only for a six‑match suspension. Gabriel Pec underwent surgery and is expected to miss three to four months of play. Victor Gabriel was shown a red card in the match and later issued an apology on social media. The decision is appealable. Some media noted that Inter’s defence presented a fake VAR audio during the hearing, which the club later acknowledged as a parody.
