Victor González Salum emphasizes mental health in Tamaulipas secondary schools
Victor González Salum, director general of the Colegio de Bachilleres de Tamaulipas (Cobat), announced that mental‑health support has become a priority for the state's higher‑secondary education system. The network serves about 18,000 students across 64 campuses in 35 municipalities.
González Salum said socio‑emotional problems affect schools nationwide, especially in larger cities where family and community violence impact adolescents. While no cases have yet been recorded in Cobat's new monitoring application, the system is prepared to intervene and refer students to the Secretaría de Salud, youth intervention centers, integration programs or the DIF when needed. The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to strengthen mental‑health care for students aged 15‑18.
