Victor Mokoena sentenced to four life terms for social media modelling scams

Victor Mokoena, 26, has been sentenced to four life terms by the Johannesburg High Court for the rape of four women. The convictions follow a series of crimes committed between March 2021 and October 2024.

Mokoena utilized Facebook and Instagram to target young women, posing as a photographer or promoter. He lured victims with promises of modelling, promotional, and photoshoot opportunities. Once victims arrived at designated locations, he transported them to secluded areas where he raped and assaulted them.

In addition to the life sentences, Mokoena received 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, two years for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and one year for pointing an object resembling a firearm. Prosecutors noted that Mokoena attempted to conceal his identity by using different names and deleting digital conversations and contact details from the victims' mobile phones. The investigation successfully linked the cases through digital evidence and a consistent modus operandi.
