Victor Nyasulu petitions SDA Church over President Hichilema

Lusaka businessman Victor Nyasulu has issued a public letter to the leadership of the Seventh-day Adventist Church regarding the conduct of Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema. Nyasulu, a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, addressed the church in relation to Hichilema’s status as an elder within the Seventh-day Adventist denomination.

Nyasulu stated that his concerns are not rooted in political allegiance but in Christian integrity. He argued that the church has a responsibility to uphold biblical standards of truth, justice, and accountability, particularly when the conduct of a prominent member affects the moral witness of both the church and the nation.

While acknowledging that President Hichilema acts as the Head of State and government in his official capacity rather than as a representative of the church, Nyasulu emphasized that Christian character should not be suspended upon assuming public office. He cited New Testament standards requiring leaders to be ‘above reproach’ and ‘blameless’ as the basis for his request to the church leadership.
