Victor Osimhen set for Nigeria return in AFCON qualifiers

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle is expected to make three changes to the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania.

Victor Osimhen is set to return to the lineup after recovering from a right adductor and groin injury sustained in September. The Galatasaray forward recently returned to action in the Turkish league and has since started in the Champions League.

Other expected additions include a Bursaspor forward currently in scoring form in Turkey and defender Abdullahi Bewene. Nigeria faces a critical juncture in Group L, currently sitting second with three points, following a 3-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau. Because Tanzania is a host for the 2027 finals, only the highest-placed non-host team in the group will qualify, making the upcoming double-header against Tanzania vital for Nigeria's campaign.
