Ioan Varga to quit CFR Cluj and invest in UTA Arad

Club patron Ioan Varga announced he will cease funding CFR Cluj and is looking to invest in UTA Arad, citing a lack of local support in Cluj and frustration with city officials. He described the situation as “humiliating” after a heavy loss to Tromsø in the Conference League and said he will seek a club that “values” him. UTA Arad president Alexandru Meszar welcomed the prospect, calling the club a “very attractive investment opportunity” with good infrastructure, a strong fan base and strategic location.

Varga also warned that he will “clean up” CFR Cluj, targeting staff and players he deems underperforming. Meanwhile, former national team coach Victor Pițurcă made several statements about the Romanian SuperLiga: he predicted Universitatea Craiova as the title favorite, criticised FCSB after its elimination by Auda, and claimed the Ministry of National Defence does not want Steaua promoted to the top tier. Former player Adrian Cristea commented on Dinamo’s young defender Cătălin Cîrjan, saying the 23‑year‑old lacks the physical strength for one‑on‑one duels.
