When asked about potential candidates for the position of Prime Minister, Băsescu responded with irony, stating, "I believe I would be the best prime minister."

However, he declined to name specific successors or confirm any actual interest in the role, noting that naming someone would only fuel further speculation. He also remarked on his age, suggesting that at 75, he would avoid the "dangerous sport" of being Prime Minister.
