Victor Ponta announces plans for a new political party
Former Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has confirmed his intention to launch a new political platform. Ponta stated that the current political landscape requires a new wave of leaders to provide an alternative to traditional parties, citing declining trust in established formations across Europe, including Germany, France, and Italy.
Ponta indicated that he is holding discussions with individuals from the business and academic sectors, many of whom lack prior political experience. He expressed interest in attracting parliamentarians, former parliamentarians, and valuable individuals from smaller parties. Regarding the AUR party, Ponta noted that while they possess quality individuals, they also carry a high level of negative votes.
Sociologist Mirel Palada observed that growing disillusionment with traditional parties, including USR and AUR, is creating space for new political entities. Palada noted that Ponta maintains a relatively consistent trust level between 20% and 25% and suggested a new formation could potentially start with an electoral score of approximately 7%.
