Victor Wanyama reflects on retirement and Tottenham career

Former Kenyan international Victor Wanyama has reflected on his retirement from professional football, citing persistent knee problems as the primary reason for his departure from the sport. The 35-year-old midfielder played his final competitive match in March 2025, following a career that included a stint with CF Montreal in Major League Soccer and a period with the Scottish side Dunfermline.

Wanyama highlighted his time at Tottenham Hotspur as a career pinnacle, specifically recalling the 2016–17 season where the club finished as Premier League runners-up and remained unbeaten at home. He expressed deep sentimental value regarding the final competitive match at White Hart Lane in May 2017, where he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 victory against Manchester United.

“For me, that was most special, not losing at White Hart Lane,” Wanyama stated, noting that scoring in the stadium's final home game was a significant personal achievement.
