Victor Wembanyama frustrated by FIBA schedule conflict

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has expressed frustration regarding his inability to join the French national basketball team for upcoming FIBA international windows. The conflict arises because the November qualifying dates for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup coincide with the NBA regular season.

In an interview with L’Équipe, Wembanyama noted that while he remains committed to his professional duties in Texas, it is difficult to be away from his national teammates. The scheduling conflict means France will compete in its next official matches against Estonia on November 27 and Sweden on November 30 without their captain.

Wembanyama, who is the youngest captain for France since Tony Parker in 2003, recently concluded a summer period of international play where he averaged 17 points per game. French coach Frédéric Fauthoux has reaffirmed Wembanyama's leadership role within the squad despite the upcoming absences.
