Victoria and Nanaimo launch GoByBike Week promoting cycling and active transport

The Regional District of Nanaimo and the Capital Regional District are hosting GoByBike Week, a province‑wide event encouraging residents to commute by bicycle, scooter, skateboard or roller skates. The week runs from May 30 to June 5, with participants logging rides online to qualify for more than $25,000 in prizes, including a new Devinci bike, hotel stays and ferry trips. Celebration Stations set up across Greater Victoria offer free food, drinks, bike tune‑ups and a “Prize Passport” stamp for each visit.

BC Transit is providing free bus service for cyclists who use bike racks or show a helmet, and the event highlights health benefits, reduced traffic congestion and greenhouse‑gas savings. Organisers estimate that annual cycling across British Columbia saves the emissions of roughly 600 passenger cars per year.
