Victoria announces funding for Melbourne tree planting and Mornington trail

The Victorian government has committed $3 million to plant more than 100,000 trees across Melbourne suburbs identified as having thin canopy cover and high heat exposure. The funding is divided into two parts: $1.5 million for 13 tree-planting projects in areas such as Hume, Werribee, and Braybrook, and $1.5 million to green 10 shopping strips and busy streets across the metropolitan area.

Separately, the Liberal Party has pledged $2 million toward the first stage of a trail project intended to link Mornington and Moorooduc Station. This initiative aims to address a gap in the 170-kilometre Peninsula Trail network, providing improved walking, running, and cycling connections for residents and tourists in the Mornington electorate.
