Victoria art project uses karaoke to address colonialism

Artists Peter Morin and Jimmie Kilpatrick are launching a participatory art project titled ‘Love Songs to End Colonization’ in Victoria, British Columbia. The initiative, a collaboration between the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Open Space Arts Society, uses karaoke as a medium to address settler colonialism.

The project invites participants to repurpose classic love songs to reframe their relationship with the act of decolonizing in Canada. The programming includes a public performance at the Cameron Bandshell in Beacon Hill Park on August 28, followed by an artist conversation on August 29.

A related exhibition will be hosted at the Open Space gallery from August 29 through October 3.
