Victoria Bulldogs qualify for Intermediate Little League World Series in California

The Victoria Bulldogs secured a berth at the Intermediate Little League World Series after defeating Quebec’s Diamond Baseball Academy 5-2 in the decisive game of the Canadian Intermediate Little League Championship. This victory makes them the first Vancouver Island team ever to represent Canada at the 12‑team tournament in Livermore, California, scheduled for Aug. 2‑9.

The all‑star squad of 13‑year‑old players from Beacon Hill, Central Saanich, Hampton, Layritz and National leagues rallied from an 8‑0 loss in the previous game, with standout performances by Desmond Howard, who hit two home runs, and pitcher Matt Mickelson. Manager Will Whiteside praised the team’s resilience, noting the program only began last September.

The Bulldogs will travel to California on July 31 and open the series against a team from Czechia, marking a historic milestone for the region’s youth baseball program.
