Victoria cattle markets see strong demand and rising prices at Leongatha and Wangaratta sales

Livestock exchanges in Victoria reported robust activity in July. At the Eastern Victoria Livestock Exchange in Leongatha, nearly 4,000 cattle were yarded, with weaner steers fetching up to $2,220 per head and yearling steers up to $3,200. Major feedlot buyers such as J&F, Teys Australia, Australian Food and Agriculture and Midfield Meats were present, and commission buyer Campbell Ross purchased 800 head for clients across NSW, South Australia and Queensland.

The Wangaratta Livestock Exchange sold 2,125 head, generating more than $3.57 million in yarding value. Prices across weight categories ranged from $4.55 to $8.16 per kilogram for steers and $1.50 to $5.46 for heifers, with top per‑head prices reaching $2,790 for Angus steers. Key sellers included R & R O’Keefe, Tararu Past Company and SJ & RTC Wilson, all transacting through Elders.

Both venues highlighted strong buyer interest driven by feedlot demand and favourable market sentiment, underscoring a buoyant Australian cattle market.
