Victoria Classic Boat Festival showcases historic vessels
The 47th annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival took place in Greater Victoria’s Inner Harbour over the Labour Day long weekend. Hosted by the Maritime Museum of BC, the event featured more than 50 historic and unique vessels, ranging from small dinghies to large wooden cruisers.
Notable displays included the 130-year-old Dorothy skiff, a cedar and fir vessel built by JJ Robinson, and the Rainbow Row skiff-gig, described as potentially the only Royal Navy skiff-gig in existence. Other featured boats included the Faranda, a 40-foot pleasure boat built in 1937 that underwent a full renovation by owner Dave Craig.
In a separate commentary regarding Labour Day, Jennifer Whiteside addressed the dedication of British Columbia’s workers, specifically first responders and emergency services during wildfire season. The commentary also noted the economic impact of a 50 per cent tariff imposed by the Trump administration on Canadian workers.
