Victoria commits $53.6 million to patient transport assistance

The Victorian Labor government has committed $53.6 million to the Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme (VPTAS). This investment aims to increase accommodation subsidies from $49.50 to $125 per night and raise the private-vehicle reimbursement rate from 21 to 35 cents per kilometre.

The Leukaemia Foundation has welcomed the move, noting it would move Victoria from last to equal first on its National Patient Travel Scorecard. The foundation is calling on all other political parties contesting the November 28 election to match this commitment to help ease the financial burden on regional cancer patients.
