Victoria considers hotel conversion for historic BC Power Commission building

The Victoria City Council is scheduled to review a proposal to convert the former BC Power Commission building at 780 Blanshard Street into a 126-room hotel. The plan includes restoring the historic structure, adding a one-storey rooftop addition, and incorporating a restaurant.

City staff have recommended supporting the heritage designation and alteration permit, noting that the building is a rare example of art deco office architecture. The project aims to achieve heritage conservation within the downtown core. The site, which currently houses several artist studios and office spaces, is already on the city’s heritage register. If the application proceeds, a public hearing will be required.
