Victoria expands Solar for Apartments program

The Victorian and Australian federal governments are expanding the Solar for Apartments program to increase solar accessibility for apartment, unit, and townhouse residents. The expansion removes the previous median property value limit and increases the maximum eligible building size from 50 lots to 150 lots.

Under the program, successful applicants can access rebates of up to $2,800 per apartment, with a total cap of $140,000 per building. These rebates cover an average of 76% of installation costs, potentially saving residents up to $500 annually on electricity bills. Additionally, owners corporations can now allocate up to 20% of generated solar energy to common property to reduce costs for shared facilities.

The program has already facilitated over 150 rooftop solar installations across Victoria, with nearly half occurring on rental properties. Applications for the expanded scheme are open until June 2027.
