Victoria freight infrastructure projects reach key milestones

Major freight infrastructure projects in regional Victoria have reached significant milestones. Inland Rail has completed the first site in the Beveridge to Albury Tranche 2 section at Seymour. To accommodate double-stacked freight trains, crews realigned and lowered tracks beneath the Hume Freeway, involving the excavation of 30,000 tonnes of material and the construction of an 80-metre deflection wall. Seven additional sites in this section are expected to be completed early next year.

Separately, the $22.5 million Goulburn Valley Link Freight Precinct has been completed. The project includes upgrades to Simson Road and a new roundabout at the Toolamba and Simpson Road intersection to support high-productivity freight vehicles. The precinct features an intermodal terminal providing connections to the Port of Melbourne, aimed at strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting the region's agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
