Victoria Furtună of Moldova Mare accused of historical manipulation by Putna Monastery

Victoria Furtună, leader of the Moldova Mare party and barred from the European Union for propaganda and Kremlin ties, posted images on her Facebook page claiming a recent visit to Putna Monastery to mark the 560th anniversary of the monastery’s founding. The images actually showed footage from the 2025 ceremony commemorating the death of Stephen the Great.

Putna Monastery’s administration issued a statement condemning the post as a manipulation of history and a false claim about the identity of the Bessarabians. The monastery clarified that the video was recorded on 2 July 2025 without its permission and that marking 10 July 2026 as a current visit is a deliberate misrepresentation. It warned that such actions misuse the sacred site for political purposes.
