British Columbia housing markets show divergent trends
British Columbia municipalities are reporting varied results in housing supply and market activity. North Cowichan has exceeded its second-year provincial housing target, adding 399 net new units between August 2025 and July 2026. This brings the total to 540 units, representing 44 per cent of its five-year target of 1,233 units. Of these, 60 per cent are dedicated rental units.
In contrast, the Greater Victoria real estate market experienced a downturn in September. Sales fell by 16.4 per cent compared to the previous year and 21.7 per cent compared to August. Victoria Real Estate Board chair Fergus Kyne noted that the market has entered buyer’s market territory, marking the first time this has occurred since early 2015, excluding the pandemic period. Active listings in the region rose to 3,811 at the end of September.
