Victoria invests $26.7m in youth forensic mental health

The Victorian Government is investing $26.7 million to expand the Community Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (CFYMHS). This specialist service provides early intervention and mental health care to young people aged 10 to 21 who have complex needs or harmful behaviors and are at high risk of involvement in the justice system.

The funding, which includes $21 million over five years and $5.7 million in ongoing support, will allow for more direct referrals through schools and Victoria Police. The expansion aims to increase coordination between health, education, justice, and social services to provide consistent care. Additionally, the initiative will add more clinicians to multidisciplinary teams and expand outreach services, enabling clinicians to work with young people within their homes and communities.
