Victoria reaches one-million cruise passenger milestone

Victoria has reached a historic tourism milestone, welcoming its one-millionth cruise passenger of the 2026 season for the first time in the city’s history. The milestone passenger, Geri Skardina of Hermosa Beach, California, arrived at Ogden Point on Tuesday, October 13, aboard the Norwegian Encore.

Skardina and her husband, Gary, were welcomed at the James Bay terminal by Victoria Mayor Marianne Alto, Destination Greater Victoria CEO Paul Nursey, and representatives from the Songhees Nation. The couple received a gift basket and a VIP tour of the city to celebrate the occasion.

The 2026 season has been a record-breaking year for the local cruise industry. According to the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, the season is expected to conclude with 332 cruise ship visits, surpassing the previous record of 329 set in 2022. The final scheduled ship of the season, the National Geographic Venture, is set to arrive on Sunday, October 18.
