Victoria Mutiso murder case: Suspects allege torture as lawyers withdraw

The murder investigation of Dr. Victoria Mutiso has faced significant developments in a Nairobi High Court. Three primary suspects, including Rose Mulwa and her son and daughter, have alleged they were subjected to physical abuse and torture while in custody.

Rose Mulwa testified that she was beaten and kicked by officers, leading to severe health complications, including significant weight loss and blood in her urine. Her son also alleged he was beaten and strangled with a tie. The family further claimed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ignored their medical needs and that they were treated unequally compared to other individuals linked to the investigation.

Simultaneously, defense lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta withdrew from representing the three accused. The lawyers stated they could no longer act for the clients after the suspects introduced new allegations of bribery, torture, and tribalism during court proceedings—issues that had not been part of the previously agreed-upon legal strategy for bail applications.
