Victoria named European Capital of Culture for 2031

Victoria has been selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2031. The announcement has been met with celebration from local organizations and political leaders, who view the designation as a major milestone for the island of Gozo.

The Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) stated that the title provides a unique opportunity to showcase the island’s cultural heritage, traditions, and creativity to a European audience. They noted that the designation could strengthen tourism appeal, attract new visitors, and support the sustainable growth of the local industry.

Similarly, the Gozo Business Chamber highlighted that the 2031 title will serve as a platform for economic and social development. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola described the selection as “beautiful news,” noting that it will create new opportunities for young people, provide more space for artists, and increase international visibility and investment for the region.
