Victoria Opposition Leader Jess Wilson commits to four-way leaders debate

Victorian Opposition Leader Jess Wilson has agreed to participate in a four-way leaders forum ahead of the upcoming state election. After previously refusing to join any debate outside of a traditional major party head-to-head, Wilson stated she would join Labor, One Nation, and the Greens in a forum hosted by News24 and the Herald Sun.

Wilson has continued to call for a one-on-one debate with Premier Ben Carroll, accusing him of being unwilling to face her directly. Regarding the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL), Wilson defended the Coalition's policy to pause and review the $33.5 billion project within the first 100 days of a potential government.

The Coalition has faced scrutiny over mixed messaging regarding the SRL pause. While the opposition stated that a pause would not mean workers are sent home or that tunnel boring stops, shadow attorney-general James Newbury previously indicated that tools would be down for any works that could be paused, though he noted that contracts would not be broken and workers would be paid.
