Victoria Park sports upgrades proposed to offset housing development

Warrington Borough Council is set to decide on a proposal to upgrade sports facilities at Victoria Park in Latchford. The upgrades are intended to offset the loss of sports facilities resulting from a major housing development.

Homebuilders Barratt and David Wilson have submitted plans to construct more than 400 homes on the former Padgate Campus of the University of Chester. To mitigate the impact, a supplementary application seeks to install an artificial grass pitch and replace the existing sports pavilion at Victoria Park. The plan includes eight tall lighting columns and mesh fencing to surround the new pitch.

The proposed 3G artificial grass pitch would be located on the western side of the park, replacing an existing grass playing field. Due to the site's location in flood zone three, the project involves specific considerations regarding the existing terrain. If approved by the Development Management Committee, the application may be referred to the Secretary of State for final determination.
